Never Had a Massage? Start With Swedish Massage in Nerul

If you've never had a massage, the hardest part is often the bit before it: what to wear, how much to undress, whether you're meant to talk. Our answer for a first visit is a Swedish massage in Nerul, at our branch opposite Haware Centurion Mall in Sector 25. Here's the whole hour at Sea Med Spa, before, during and after, so nothing on the day comes as a surprise.
Why Swedish Is the Easy First Massage
Swedish is a full-body oil massage on a table, made of long, gliding strokes at a light to medium pressure. There's no stretching, no acupressure and nothing held in one spot for long. That makes it the most predictable hour on our menu, which is exactly what you want the first time. You find out how you feel about oil, about being touched for an hour and about pressure, with nothing unexpected thrown in.
It's also easy to adjust. If it feels too light, the therapist can work a little firmer within the same session, so you don't need to get the choice perfect before you arrive. Our Swedish massage page has the short treatment details. If you're already torn between Swedish and Balinese, our Balinese vs Swedish guide compares the two side by side.
Before You Arrive: Booking, Clothes and Timing
Booking
Message us on WhatsApp with the day you'd like, and say it's your first massage. That one line changes how the session runs: the therapist will tell you what's coming next as they go, and check the pressure more often in the first few minutes. Sixty minutes is plenty for a first visit. Ninety is better saved for when you know you enjoy it. If you'd prefer a male or a female therapist, ask when you message.
What to wear for a massage
Wear whatever is comfortable to travel in. You won't be massaged in your clothes, so nothing special is needed, and you don't have to bring anything. Leave heavy jewellery at home, since you'd take it off anyway. A little oil can stay on the skin afterwards, so loose clothes you don't mind are a sensible choice for the ride home.
Timing the day
Eat something light an hour or two before, not a full meal. Give yourself ten minutes of slack to reach Sector 25, because the roads around Haware Centurion Mall can be slow in the evening, and arriving flustered takes a while to wear off on the table. We're open every day from 10 am to 11 pm, so an after-work slot is easy to find.
On the Table: What to Expect From a First Massage
Do you need to undress?
This is the question most first-timers are too shy to ask. You undress to whatever level you're comfortable with. Many guests keep their underwear on, and that's perfectly fine. You'll have the room to yourself to get ready, then you lie face down on the table under a towel. During the massage, only the part being worked on is uncovered: your back, then one leg, then the other. Everything else stays covered throughout.
The first few minutes
The therapist starts on your back, with warm oil and slow, broad strokes. The opening minutes are deliberately light, so you can get used to the touch. From there the hour moves through the shoulders, neck, arms and legs, and you'll be asked to turn over partway through, with the towel kept over you while you do. The strokes stay long and even the whole way, which is what makes Swedish so easy to settle into.
Talking, or not
You don't have to make conversation. Most people go quiet after a few minutes, and the therapist will follow your lead. The only talking that matters is about comfort. Say so if the pressure is too much or too little, if the room feels cold, or if a spot is tender. Nobody will be offended, and the session changes straight away. If you fall asleep, that's normal too.
After Your Swedish Massage
Don't jump straight up. Sit on the edge of the table for a moment before you stand, because lying still for an hour can leave you a little lightheaded. Drink some water. Most guests feel loose and slow for the rest of the evening, which is why we'd suggest heading home afterwards rather than back to a desk.
Swedish pressure is light, so soreness the next day is uncommon. If a spot does feel tender, it usually settles within a day. If anything felt sharp during the session, tell us, so the next one can be adjusted.
Then think about what you'd change. If you wished it were firmer, try Balinese or deep tissue massage next time. If you'd like the hour built around a scent you've chosen, aroma massage keeps the same gentle pressure with an oil you pick, and our guide to choosing an aroma scent in Nerul explains how. A first Swedish session is the easiest way to learn what you actually like.
When Your First Massage Should Wait
Tell us before you book if you're pregnant, have a fever, have had recent surgery or an injury, have a skin condition where you'd be massaged, or take blood-thinning medication. In some of these cases it's better to wait, or to check with your doctor first. The NIH's guide to massage therapy safety says the same. Massage is a wellness service, not medical treatment, so if you're dealing with ongoing pain, see a doctor or a physiotherapist before you see us.
And if lying on a table with oil really doesn't appeal, that's fine. Thai massage is done fully clothed on a floor mat, with no oil at all, and it's on the same menu.
